One of the biggest trends in Quito now is craft beer… And I mean, who doesn’t love beer? From drinking a really cold beer under the sun to sitting in a bar with amazing music and a beer in your hand, it just goes with everything… So beer drinkers rejoice, as there are so many new groups and bars that are making this glorious drink a much better experience.
There are so many great places to choose from, we tried to keep it short and recommend one place per area… We will share more later on, but in the meantime, let us know which one’s your favorite!
Bandido Brewing is my ultimate favorite place. Set in a colonial house in the historical center (behind Teatro Sucre), this place has it all: excellent draft beer (as well as some delicious seasonal ones), great food, live music every Tuesday and of course, a chapel.
La Roots is not just perfect for your Instagram, it also has amazing craft beer in a great atmosphere. With a rather small interior, the outdoor space of this beer garden is really what sets the tone: a laid-back spot that has really cool murals.
La Reserva is another awesome option, small and cozy, with over 20 brands of craft beer and your typical awesome bar food. The guys at this place really know their beer, which is why beer tours are often hosted at this spot. So go, learn, drink and enjoy!
Another beer hub that will leave all the craft beer lovers thirsty for more is La Bodega. A brand new pub, in the heart of Cumbaya, that carries over 50 beers. On top of that, it also has several flat screens and a lot of cool areas to lounge in, so good for sports and just hanging out…
L’Abadia de Quito is my newest discovery and a true hidden gem. It is an oasis in the middle of a really busy area, resembling a Scandinavian café (minimalistic design with light wood and plants). The beer is delicious and is made right there! Another place where you can drink and learn 😉
And finally one of the oldest places: Cherusker, a bar in the Fosch area that carries German-style beer. It’s probably the only place where you can get craft beer in a “giraffe” (really tall beer dispenser), and as it’s in a house, every room has a different mood.
